The hydropower database at hydro4Africa contains data on hydropower stations in southern and eastern Africa. It distinguishes between decommissioned stations (i.e stations that are no longer in use), stations that are currently in operation, stations under construction and potential sites for hydropower.
The database has been set up and is maintained by Wim Jonker Klunne as part of his research on implementation models for hydropower in eastern and southern Africa. The main aim is to make information available on the applications of hydropower and provide evidence on the wide spread use of the technology.
Information for the database has been collected by Wim through his own research and by a long list of individuals and organisations that provided information on hydrostations.
Please note that the database is work in progress. New information is added on a continuous basis.
ACCESS TO THE INFORMATION
The information on country level is freely accessible. To view details of the stations in the database a user account is required. Registration for a user account is a free and simple process and available to all users. The rationale behind asking visitors to register is to get an understanding on who is interested in the information in the database.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?

This hydropower database is not a commercial service. Keeping the database up-to-date is evening (and night) work of Wim Jonker Klunne. You are free to use the information in the database for your own work; however, as a courtesy to the efforts put in by Wim, you are requested to acknowledge the source of the information as the hydropower database at hydro4Africa by Wim Jonker Klunne.
