Generation has begun at the Chicapa hydroelectric dam in Angola's north-east Lunda Sul province, local media reports.
The 4MW first turbine at the project, located 24km from Saurimo city, is operating and the full 16MW capacity is expected to be reached by May. According to the reports, the dam will generate 4MW for Saurimo city and 12MW for the nearby Catoca Mining Society. The project is being built and financed by the Russian firm Alrosa Vneshtroy.
