Two new hydro projects open for comments under CDM

The Angolan Cambambe Hydroelectric Second Power Plant and the Repowering of Cambambe Central I Hydroelectric Power Plant are entering the public commenting phase of the CDM process.

The Cambambe Hydroelectric Second Power Plant CDM Project
The proposed CDM project comprises a capacity addition to the existing Cambambe Hydroelectric Power Plant (“Cambambe HPP”) with installation of additional 700 MW of the actual generation capacity. The electricity to be generated will be directly dispatched to the Northern Electric Grid of Angola, which is the most important and demanded subsystem of the country. The overall design of the project foresees a diversified number of activities including terrain leveling, civil construction, enhance of the water conductors, rehabilitation of the existent dam and others.
The project activity is located on the Municipality of Cambambe, distant 180 km east of Luanda, the National Capital of Angola. The dam is derived from the Kwanza River, which is located on the North Kwanza Province.
