The South African department of minerals and energy has established a Renewable Energy Finance and Subsidy Office (REFSO). The REFSO's mandate includes the management of renewable energy subsidies and the provision of advice to developers and other stakeholders on renewable energy finance and subsidies (including size of awards, eligibility, procedural requirements, etc.), as well as opportunities for accessing finance from other sources. Expressions of interest can be submitted at any time but decisions regarding the awarding of subsidies will be made by the department's Renewable Energy Subsidy Governance Committee (SGC), which will meet three times a year.
