The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), Casa Africa and the Instituto Tecnologico de Canarias S.A. (ITC), jointly released the new publication Renewable Energy in West Africa: Status, Experiences and Trends. The book provides insight into the current situation and trends in the West African renewable energy market. The book features a compilation of articles from a distinguished array of ECOWAS and international experts and institutions (e.g. UNIDO, UNEP, IRENA, REN-21). It covers a broad range of issues, including the international context of renewable energy; a continental and West African overview; renewable energy scenarios for West Africa; renewable energy policy frameworks and incentives; the ECOWAS Renewable Energy Policy; mainstreaming of gender into renewable energy policies; country profiles; rural electrification strategies; renewable energy potentials and technologies in West Africa; existing renewable energy projects; local manufacturing; and renewable energy investment and financing opportunities. The publication is a valuable resource to anyone with an interest in West Africa's energy sector. It was jointly developed by ECREEE, Casa Africa and ITC, with the financial support of the Spanish Agency for international Development Cooperation (AECID) and the European Transnational Cooperation Programme MADEIRA-AZORES-CANARIAS (MAC) 2007-2013, through the RENOW project (MAC/3/1982).
