The U.S. African Development Foundation, in collaboration with GE Africa and USAID, has opened the second round of its Off-Grid Energy Grant Challenge. They will be awarding $1.8 million in Renewable Energy Grants, for business solutions from Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Nigeria, and Tanzania. Do you have an innovative off-grid solution to "power up" underserved communities? Many rural communities, agribusinesses, and small enterprises lack reliable, affordable access to power. But we know that Africans are driving economic growth with innovative, renewable energy solutions. We want your solution to delivering power to underserved areas. Eligible applicants include: - 100% African-owned and 100% African-managed enterprises, associations or organizations. - Developers of their own technology and/or entities acquiring and implementing technology developed elsewhere. - Applicants need to be legally registered in the project country, demonstrate the capacity to track and manage project resources and operate in good standing with their local government. Projects are not to exceed 12 months in duration. Winning projects must: - Further develop, scale up or extend the use of proven technologies for off –grid energy use. - Benefit rural or urban populations currently underserved by utility companies. - Include a business model that demonstrates financial sustainability Additional information: Application web site News date: 28/05/2014 |
