Mainstream Energy Solutions Limited (MESL), operator of the Kainji, Jebba and Zungeru Hydropower Plants and Nigeria's largest hydropower company, is proud to announce a transition in its leadership.
Mr. Siraj Abdullahi has been appointed as the incoming Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Engr. Lamu Audu, FNSE, FIHA, who concludes his tenure after 13 years of exemplary leadership and dedicated service. Engr. Lamu Audu led the Company through a remarkable period of growth and transformation. Under his stewardship, MESL strengthened the performance and reliability of its hydropower assets, delivered major rehabilitation and capacity expansion initiatives, and made significant investments in its people. He significantly supported the establishment of MESL as a leading contributor to Nigeria's electricity supply and a respected player in the international hydropower community.
The incoming MD/CEO, Mr. Siraj Abdullahi, a seasoned executive has been part of the Mainstream Energy leadership team since inception. With extensive experience that spans law, banking, corporate affairs, management, corporate social responsibility and the power sector, Mr. Siraj Abdullahi brings deep institutional knowledge and strategic leadership to his new role.
Beyond his corporate leadership, Mr. Abdullahi has served as the Executive Secretary of Mainstream Foundation - the Corporate Social Responsibility arm of MESL and the first registered Foundation by a PHCN successor company. In this capacity, he has been the architect of MESL's community engagement model and its extensive life-changing initiatives across host communities.
Under Mr. Siraj’s leadership, Mainstream Foundation has invested in over 100 communities across 5 zones - Kainji, Jebba, Borgu, Kontagora, Bida and Yauri - focusing on four strategic pillars: Education, Health, Environment and Community Empowerment. These initiatives have delivered classroom blocks, scholarship programmes, medical outreaches treating thousands of residents annually, provision of power transformers and boreholes, and livelihood support for fisherfolk and women cooperatives. His introduction of the quarterly Community Consultative Forum (CCF) has fostered deep trust, dialogue and shared ownership, earning MESL enduring peace and protection of its assets within its host communities. This unique blend of commercial acumen and profound stakeholder engagement prowess positions him to lead MESL's next chapter of sustainable growth.
