On Thursday, June 26, 2025, the KAGE Ltd – Malthe Winje Infrapower AS (Norway) Consortium officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of the Republic of Burundi. The ceremony was held at Kiriri Garden Hotel in Bujumbura.
This MoU marks the launch of feasibility studies for the Muhi016 hydropower project, located on the Muhira River in Cibitoke Province. The project targets a capacity of 3.7 MW, with studies set to last 12 months, fully financed by the private sector through the Consortium’s commitment.

Importantly, this initiative is part of a broader, already active program. Another hydropower project developed by the Consortium, a 2 MW site on the Waga River, is already in its final preparatory phase, with construction expected to begin shortly. These are not abstract ambitions, but tangible developments already underway.
This partnership with the Government of Burundi reflects a shared vision: to accelerate access to reliable, clean, and inclusive energy through long-term investment in sustainable infrastructure. The MoU aligns with the country’s strategic objectives under Vision 2040/2060.
KAGE sincerely thanks the Government of Burundi for its trust in both local and international private actors, and recognises their partner, Malthe Winje Gruppen, for its century-long expertise and enduring commitment. Thanks were also expressed for the presence and support of Her Excellency the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway and all other distinguished guests and ministerial representatives.
