Mpatamanga Hydro has announced the completion of the Initial Selection process for the Mpatamanga Hydropower Project (MHPP), a key initiative in Malawi aimed at harnessing the water from Lake Malawi flowing along the Shire River, the largest river in Malawi and a tributary that flows into the Zambezi River.
The 358 MW (approx.) Mpatamanga Hydro Power Project is located on the Shire River in the southern region of Malawi, within the Districts of Blantyre and Neno. MHPP will approximately double the installed electricity capacity in the country, attributed to renewable hydropower.
The selection and shortlist process adheres to the principles of transparency, fairness, and competition, as guided by both the Strategic
Sponsors (EDF France and Scatec), the Government of Malawi, the IFC, and the World Bank.
Following a rigorous evaluation of all Initial Selection Applicants, the following RfP shortlist have demonstrated their capability and
experience to meet the requirements set forth during the Initial Selection process. These RfP shortlisted entities are being invited by
MHPL to submit their detailed proposals in response to the RfP.
Each work package will receive unique RfP documents, which include detailed instructions and evaluation criteria, will be issued to the shortlisted Applicants in Q4 2024. Financial Close, signifying the beginning of the main construction works, is currently scheduled for Q4 2025.
