The main objective of the project is to promote investment in SHP technology and strengthen local manufacturing of small hydropower turbines in Nigeria. The project comprises of four (4) major components. This activity contributes to a main component “Upgrading the capacity for local SHP turbines fabrication and control systems in Nigeria”. This assignment envisages enhancing the capacity for fabricating SHP electromechanical equipment from its current capacity of 125kW to 300kW.
Based on previous studies carried‐out in Nigeria by UNIDO, it has been recommended to initially concentrate on crossflow turbines due to its wide application range, relative ease of manufacture and the possibility to standardize turbine dimensions and components, making it particularly applicable within a developing country environment.
Accordingly, UNIDO is seeking the services of a suitable SHP technology (service) provider, with a proven record of accomplishment in manufacturing SHP turbines and control equipment for transferring the technology on the fabrication of SHP equipment in Nigeria. This assignment will involve the conduct of a Know-how Transfer training for local equipment manufacturers in Nigeria on the design and manufacture of crossflow turbines with a capacity of up to 300kW. The training will enable local equipment manufacturers to have access to proven standardized turbine designs as well as have the capacity to manufacture these locally
